I read Sarah and The Heart is Deceitful Above all Things last week and they were amazing!
Sarah is funny and a little disturbing in that it's a fairy tale adventures of a 12 year old transvestite truck stop prostitute. The ending id VERY sad, but it's overall a really funny book.
The Heart is Deceitful Above all Things will rip your heart out and leave you waith a craving for vengance. It has it's funny moments but it is obviously autobiographical and may give you nightmares. I know I will never look at young mothers with their children without a little suspicion.

It's not coming out until April but...

I just read an advanced readers' copy of Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathon Safran Foer and it was wonderful.
It's told in the perspective of three people: a brilliant nine year old boy who lost his father in the World Trade Center, an old man who survived the Dresden firebombings and cannot speak and the little boy's paternal grandmother.
It's funny, sad and completely satisfying.

I also just finished "Healing the Shame that Binds You" by John Bradshaw. This is a good self-help book for people who have had problems with addiction or who were raised by those with an addiction. (Or anyone who has any other kind of abandonement issues).

Darkfall

Well I just finished "Darkfall" by Dean Koontz. It was simple, but I enjoyed it. It's a fast-paced horror story about a Bocor (a voodoo Priest who engages in black magic). Plenty of creepy monsters, and a good hero to save the day (or night, rather). It was fun and it had a few interesting bits of commentary on the nature of voodoo magic and religion.

By Clarissa Pinkola Estes. I'm almost finished reading it and I would recommend it to anyone, especially if you're interested in mythology, folktales, or jungian psychology. She uses very poetic language. It's good medicine.

That is how the book starts out. Soon we have gone to see what kind of teacher it is with the books main character. I find myself able to sit in his shoes and thinking exactly what he thinks (although I am a little quicker on the uptake). And here is what he thinks:

His whole life he has grown up believing that the world is the way that it seems to be and that he has been told it is. Yet, he find that he can't help but think that he is being lied to.

YES!!!! I only hope that the author gives me some sort of answer I can mesh with. Although, if he doesn't at least I will still know that the world doesn't have to be the way I have been led to believe. At least at this moment my mind is freer.
